Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has urged the government to consolidate co-operation with international partners in carrying out various developmental projects especially regarding environment conservation and green transformation.

During a meeting he called with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and International Co-operation Minister Rania al-Mashat on Sunday to follow up on the progress of the state’s strategy for co-operation with international partners in carrying out various developmental projects, President Sisi made special reference to the national project for the development of lakes nationwide and the preservation of their biological diversity, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

The president also called for optimised benefiting from development co-operation in supporting state efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic growth as well as in boosting competitiveness and motivating the role of the private sector in elevating growth rates.

Elaborating, President Sisi urged benefiting from co-operation with international partners in enhancing the efforts of the state to expand investments in infrastructure as well as the investment in human capital through the Decent Life presidential initiative, Spokesman Radi said, adding that the president also called for the continuation of publicising successful developmental experiences through various international platforms.

The presidential directives and remarks followed a presentation by Minister Mashat of the highlights of development co-operation efforts with the international partners aiming to muster all forms of the support deemed necessary for the major national projects now being carried out in different sectors.

In her presentation, Minister Mashat reviewed the strategies for development-oriented co-operation as drafted with the participation of all bodies concerned from the government, the private sector and the civil society. These strategies, she noted, take into account the state’s priorities, in line with the “Egypt Takes off” programme and the National Human Rights Strategy as well as the relevant presidential initiatives, especially including the Decent Life initiative.

These strategies, Minister Mashat said in her presentation, include a new one for co-operation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) through to the year 2027 and a strategic framework for partnership with the UN for achieving sustainable development.

Action in this direction also targets obtaining maximised benefits form co-operation with the European Union and boosting partnership with the European Investment Bank, Minister Mashat added.

The international co-operation minister then outlined the outcome of the ‘Egypt Forum for International Co-operation and Development Finance’ held under President Sisi’s auspices in September 2021, Ambassador Radi said.

The forum’s closing statement stressed the importance of enhancing regional South-South co-operation, as well as promoting youth capabilities in entrepreneurship of technology business, as well as the private sector’s participation in development.

Yesterday’s meeting also featured a briefing to President Sisi on the executive situation of a number of projects and development financing  the country, aiming to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic and social development, especially including the projects related to climate change and the Decent Life initiative, the presidency spokesman said.
