Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdel Aziz Konsowa held talks with Spain’s Ambassador to Egypt, Álvaro Iranzo Gutiérrez, and officials from IE University, to explore ways to strengthen academic and research co-operation between the two countries.
Minister Konsowa highlighted the strong and growing ties between Egypt and Spain, stressing the importance of building on the recent momentum in bilateral relations, particularly following Spain’s King to Egypt.
He underlined Egypt’s commitment to expanding international partnerships in higher education and research, including attracting branches of leading global universities.
Konsowa described co-operation with Spain as a promising opportunity to enhance academic exchange, transfer expertise, and provide high-quality education for students.
He noted that co-operation between the two sides has already seen notable progress, particularly in scientific research, innovation, and participation in European programmes.
Konsowa also pointed to opportunities to deepen collaboration in applied education and technical training, highlighting the potential to benefit from Spain’s experience in dual education systems that link education with industry. He added that both sides could expand joint projects under European initiatives, including Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, and regional Mediterranean programmes.
For his part, Ambassador Iranzo Gutiérrez praised the strong strategic relations between Egypt and Spain, commending the significant growth and development of Egypt’s higher education sector in recent years.
Representatives of IE University expressed interest in strengthening ties with Egyptian institutions, exploring academic partnerships, and introducing modern programmes aligned with global labour market needs.
