Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdel-Aati, emphasised on Monday the urgent need for coordinated regional and international efforts to prevent the Middle East from descending into widespread chaos.

He also highlighted Egypt’s commitment to de-escalation, diplomacy, and dialogue, condemning attacks on the territories of brotherly Arab states as direct threats to Egyptian and regional security.

In this respect, Minister Abdel-Aati received two separate phone calls from Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to exchange views on the rapidly evolving regional developments.

During the conversation with Minister Gerapetritis, the two sides probed the latest developments, reaffirming their commitment to continued coordination and consultation to contain tensions.

In the discussion with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hussein, an emphasis was placed on the repercussions of the escalation on Iraq, the importance of preserving its stability and territorial integrity, and coordinating on the agenda of the upcoming virtual meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States at the foreign ministers’ level on March 29.

In both calls, the ministers underscored the importance of diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation, supporting initiatives aimed at de-escalation, and safeguarding regional stability and security.

They also stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of international navigation and averting the severe economic and security repercussions of a broader regional conflict.
