Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said that Egypt highly values the efforts of US President Donald Trump aimed at promoting security and stability in the Middle East.

In statements to MENA during a joint press conference with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković, Abdelatty said that Egypt is closely monitoring recent developments, noting a message issued earlier by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressing appreciation for the US president’s role in supporting peace and stability at the regional and international levels.

Regarding the second phase of the US peace plan, Abdelatty said that Egypt received an invitation for President Sisi to join the proposed Peace Council.

He added that Egypt is currently reviewing the matter and the related documents received in recent hours, explaining that the council’s formation is linked to the second phase of the plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, which provides for the establishment of the council under US leadership, with Egypt among its members.

Abdelatty reiterated that without direct involvement by US President in the Palestinian file and in carrying out second-phase commitments, it would be extremely difficult to ensure that parties meet their obligations on the ground amid ongoing ceasefire violations.

Abdelatty noted that the sustained US engagement and daily follow-up, particularly on the implementation of the 20-point Gaza peace plan announced by the US president and the requirements of United Nations Security Council resolutions, are essential.

He added that this involvement is the only effective means to secure compliance by both sides and prevent the process from stalling.

The top diplomat also affirmed that the second phase of the peace plan includes Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, early recovery and reconstruction and moving forward with an administrative committee to manage civilian affairs in Gaza.

Additionally, Abdelatty said that the agreement has already been reached on the committee’s 15 members and its chair and it is expected to begin work inside Gaza soon to oversee basic services and daily administration.
