Models combining efficiency and performance: Nissan Qashqai e-POWER and the all-new patrol demonstrate Nissan’s commitment to innovation and leadership

By Omar Nour

Nissan Egypt has made a significant leap in sustainable mobility standards across Africa, announcing the launch of the third generation of its revolutionary e-POWER technology in the Nissan Qashqai.

To underline this leadership, the company organised an exceptional event—the first of its kind on the African continent—giving a select group of journalists and influencers the opportunity to test drive the latest version of its global icon, the Nissan Patrol.

This reflects Nissan’s steadfast commitment to combining technological innovation with strong performance to meet the expectations of customers in the African market.

The e-POWER technology in the Nissan Qashqai is redefining electric propulsion concepts, offering a driving experience similar to a fully electric vehicle without requiring any external charging source.

The latest generation of this technology incorporates Nissan’s most recent advances in fuel efficiency for C-SUVs, achieving a consumption rate of just 4.6 litres per 100 kilometres according to WLTP tests, while carbon dioxide emissions do not exceed 102 grams per kilometre, with an estimated driving range of approximately 1,200 kilometres.

Additionally, the cabins of vehicles equipped with this technology are quieter, with highly responsive performance, allowing the Qashqai to set a new benchmark for smooth driving enjoyment and luxury on all roads.

Unlike other electrified powertrains, e-POWER relies on a petrol engine solely as a generator to charge the vehicle’s battery, while wheel propulsion comes entirely from the electric motor.

This design provides a worry-free electric driving experience, delivering instant torque and smooth acceleration, making the technology especially suitable for markets with limited electric charging infrastructure.

To highlight this significant technological leap, African journalists were given a first-time opportunity to test drive the new Patrol in Africa, Nissan’s icon of powerful performance and superior capability, following its official continental launch earlier this year.

The Qashqai e-POWER and the new Patrol embody Nissan’s commitment to innovation, reaffirming its technological leadership in the SUV segment.

To celebrate these achievements, Nissan Egypt organised a prominent two-day event, the Red Sea SUV Drive, in El Gouna, attended by media representatives, Nissan partners, and distributors from across Africa, for exclusive test drive experiences, expert panel discussions on the transition to electrified mobility, and direct engagement with the company’s executive management and regional distributors.

Participants gained first-hand insights into Nissan’s innovations and contributions towards shaping the future of mobility in Africa and globally.

Jordi Villa, President of Nissan Africa, commented: “The integrated two-day driving experience is the perfect platform to showcase Nissan’s leadership in the journey towards electrified vehicles.

This event also demonstrates Nissan’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions tailored to the African markets, and the Nissan Red Sea SUV Drive reflects our strong belief in the importance of the Egyptian market and its pivotal regional role.”

In a related statement, Mohamed Abdel Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Egypt, said that the Egyptian market plays a key role in implementing Nissan’s regional plans and objectives.

He added: “Egyptian customers seek practical and efficient solutions that ensure exceptional fuel efficiency without compromising driving pleasure or vehicle performance, which is exactly what the new generation of e-POWER technology delivers.”

He continued: “This reflects Nissan Egypt’s commitment to expanding its models in this strategic market, offering more options to meet consumer needs, reinforcing our position as the number-one automotive brand in Egypt for more than two consecutive years.”

The innovative e-POWER electrified drivetrain first appeared in Japan in 2017, followed by the second generation in Europe in 2022 via the Nissan Qashqai, featuring a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a turbocharger serving as a generator.

In September of this year, Nissan announced the launch of the third generation of e-POWER technology in the Qashqai in European markets, with enhanced cabin quietness, reduced fuel consumption and emissions, without compromising performance. Accordingly, the Qashqai achieved an outstanding real-world fuel consumption of 7.2 litres/100 km, the best in its class according to independent ADAC German tests.

Nissan continues to embody the Japanese concept of “Kaizen,” based on continuous improvement, ensuring the delivery of environmentally friendly, more efficient, and technologically advanced vehicles to its customers, following the company’s success in selling over 1.5 million vehicles equipped with e-POWER technology across more than 65 countries worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Qashqai’s top-tier N-Design trim features premium equipment such as a panoramic roof and a 3D Around View Monitor system, creating a uniquely luxurious driving experience.

Ten years after the Qashqai’s launch, Catherine Zachary, Vice President of International Communications for Nissan in the Middle East, Africa, India, Europe, and Oceania, confirmed that the latest generation is the best ever.

She stated: “Nissan continues to raise the bar in the C-SUV segment with the launch of the Qashqai e-POWER. Being a Japanese brand, innovation is an intrinsic part of our identity, and e-POWER exemplifies our ability to develop solutions that enrich our customers’ lives. e-POWER vehicle sales in Europe alone have exceeded 250,000 units, demonstrating the strength of this technology in the markets where we operate globally.”
