CAIRO – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriate Affairs praised the decision of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions’ (GANHRI) Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) to retain the classification of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) to maintain the council’s “A” status.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a press statement on Friday that the decision is a step that reflects confidence in the Council’s independence, effectiveness, and relentless efforts in promoting and protecting human rights in their comprehensive concept.

The ministry stressed that this decision affirms the international community’s appreciation for the development achieved by the Egyptian State and its national institutions over recent years at the national level, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. This development aims to enhance the human rights system in various political, economic, social, and cultural fields, and to entrench the principles of human rights, the rule of law, and citizenship, within the framework of keenness to preserve the rights and dignity of Egyptian citizens.

It affirmed that this decision is an extension of a series of successes achieved by Egypt in the field of human rights, the latest of which was the election of Egypt as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2026-2028, reflecting the prestigious position and increasing appreciation the Egyptian State enjoys on the international stage.

The ministry also praised the keenness of President Sisi to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms, a keenness that has been translated in recent years by the launch of the National Human Rights Strategy in 2021, which formed a framework for integrated action by all state agencies and institutions to strengthen the legislative and institutional frameworks supporting human rights.

The implementation of this strategy has been followed up through a series of periodic reports, the latest of which was the fourth report received by President Sis in September 2025 from the Foreign Minister in his capacity as the head of the Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights.

The ministry of foreign affairs affirmed that it is working in coordination with all concerned national bodies to implement the directives of the President to begin preparations for the launch of the new National Human Rights Strategy for the next five years, thus enhancing the Egyptian State’s step towards entrenching comprehensive human rights principles and sustainable development.
