LUSAKA/CAIRO – Egyptian Ambassador in Lusaka Mayada Essam Abdel Rahman has emphasized during her meeting with Minister of Zambia’s Lusaka Province Sheal S. Mulyata the importance of the health and pharmaceutical sectors as priorities in bilateral cooperation; given the competitiveness of Egyptian pharmaceuticals in terms of both price and quality.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the longstanding historical relations between Egypt and Zambia, culminating in the Zambian president’s visit to Egypt last February and his meeting with the Egyptian leader on February 24.

The presidential talks tackled areas of bilateral cooperation in priority sectors for both nations, particularly in light of the growing importance of “economic diplomacy” and its role in complementing foreign policy and strengthening ties at all levels, she said.

The ambassador pointed out to the signing of the executive framework for the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) and the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority on May 21.

This represented a vital step in the course of Egypt-Zambia relations in the health sector in a way that allows Egyptian medicines to access the Zambian market, in line with presidential directives for increasing Egypt’s pharmaceutical exports to African markets and building on the outcomes of the Zambian president’s key visit to Egypt in February, added the ambassador.
