Climate change is the biggest challenge of our time. Significant changes are necessary to limit global warming and to stay within the planetary boundaries. We are committed to being part of the solution by reducing the environmental impact of our operations and products. At the same time, the demand for new energy sources, transportation modes, and automation presents a significant business opportunity for us.

Our role in the transition

Our technologies and our dedicated teams address the challenges faced by our customers and society. Over the past few years, we have intensified our efforts to develop efficient technologies and solutions that support the transition to a low-carbon society.

Engineering a sustainable future

As global environmental concerns intensify, Atlas Copco Group stands at the forefront of sustainable industrial transformation. With deep roots in engineering and innovation, the company is actively shaping a future where industrial performance and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.

Reducing industrial emissions

Atlas Copco Group’s core climate strategy revolves around energy efficiency. Its cutting-edge technologies – such as Variable Speed Drive (VSD) compressors – help customers reduce energy use and CO2 emissions significantly. In energy-intensive sectors, where compressed air can account for over 10 per cent of electricity usage, these innovations are crucial for reducing industrial carbon footprints.

Corporate climate commitments

The company has set ambitious science-based targets aligned with the Paris Agreement. These include reducing greenhouse gas emissions from operations (Scope 1 and 2) and across its entire value chain (Scope 3). Atlas Copco Group also plans to develop a long-term climate transition plan by 2026 and aims to halve emissions from energy use and transport by 2030, using 2020 as a baseline.

Operational Action: Clean energy and efficiency

Atlas Copco Group is scaling up the use of renewable electricity, installing solar panels at production sites, and introducing biofuels in product testing. It is also working to reduce emissions from company vehicles and implement energy-saving programmes across global facilities.

Sustainable innovation & electrification

Sustainability is embedded in the product development process. Atlas Copco Group’s transition from diesel-powered to electric-driven portable compressors reduces emissions in construction and mining – industries traditionally difficult to decarbonize. These solutions, combined with digital tools like SmartLink for real-time energy monitoring, reflect a holistic approach to efficiency and accountability.

Embracing circularity

We integrate circularity in different stages of a product’s life – from design to waste reduction. We aim to systematically apply circularity principles in our product development, covering all new and redesigned products by 2027.

Empowering customers and industry

Atlas Copco Group isn’t just reducing its own emissions – it’s enabling customers to do the same. Whether through oil-free compressors for pharmaceuticals, energy-efficient systems for food processing, or smart maintenance platforms, the company helps other industries reduce their environmental impact without compromising performance.

Conclusion: Driving real climate impact

Atlas Copco Group’s climate strategy is not an afterthought – it is a driving force behind its innovation and operations. By combining technical excellence with sustainability leadership, the company is engineering a cleaner, more efficient industrial future.
