President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast commitment to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation during a high-level meeting on Monday with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi. The meeting, held in Cairo, underscored Egypt’s call for the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.

President Sisi emphasized Egypt’s leading role in advocating for a world free of nuclear weapons and reiterated support for reinforcing the universality of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). He highlighted the importance of advancing international efforts to curb the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The discussions were attended by Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty and General Intelligence Service Director Hassan Rashad.

Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that President Sisi praised the IAEA’s role in promoting global peace and security through its mission of disarmament and oversight of nuclear technologies. He also welcomed the continued expansion of cooperation between Egypt and the agency.

Director General Grossi commended Egypt’s longstanding and active engagement in global disarmament efforts and its historical leadership in promoting non-proliferation.

The talks also addressed broader regional issues, with President Sisi highlighting Egypt’s initiatives aimed at restoring stability and security across the Middle East. He stressed the need for a comprehensive and inclusive strategy to address the region’s security challenges and to lay the foundation for sustainable peace.
