CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty asserted the political will to enhance relations with Montenegro.

This came during a joint press conference in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital between Abdelatty and Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović.

Abdelatty praised the visit of Montenegrin minister to Egypt saying it reflects mutual keenness on boosting cooperation between both sides.

The talks tackled means of promoting cooperation in the different domains particularly the economic and investment sectors, Abdelatty said.

Abdelatty lauded Montenegro’s initiative to establish an embassy in Cairo.

He welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Egypt’s Diplomatic Institute and Diplomatic Academy of Montenegro along with a memorandum of understanding to establish a political consultation mechanism between the two countries to push the bilateral ties forward.

Abdelatty stated that economic, trade and investment issues received significant attention and priority during today’s talks, based on the shared belief that strengthening economic and investment relations forms a fundamental pillar for establishing a long-term partnership between Egypt and Montenegro.

Abdelatty added, during a joint press conference held on Tuesday with Ibrahimović, that the discussions included a number of constructive ideas that could help boost trade and investment. Chief among them was the proposal to launch a regular maritime shipping line between Alexandria Port and Port of Bar in Montenegro, which would significantly increase trade volume, facilitate goods transportation, and open promising opportunities for businesspeople in both countries to explore available commercial and investment prospects.

He also explained that the possibility of launching a direct flight route between the two countries was discussed, which would help boost tourism between Egypt and Montenegro.

Abdelatty indicated that the talks also covered cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, industry, food industries, construction and tourism.

The discussions also addressed joint cooperation in facing transnational challenges, especially terrorism and illegal migration.

Abdelatty lauded the Montenegrin Parliament’s initiative to establish a friendship group with Egypt, affirming Egypt’s full readiness to activate parliamentary communication mechanisms between the two countries.
