The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has commended Egypt for its growing leadership and influential position in both regional and international aviation. During a high-level visit to the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, IATA officials praised the country’s ongoing efforts to modernize its aviation infrastructure and highlighted the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s strategic role in driving development within this vital sector.

The delegation, led by Kamil Al-Awadhi, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, and Mohamed Lotfy, Regional Director for North Africa, was welcomed by Capt. Amr El Sharkawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, alongside Capt. Karim Gamil, Advisor to the Chairman.

In a meeting held during the visit, the two parties discussed key issues shaping the future of the aviation industry, including air transport policy, environmental challenges, and sustainable development. The discussions also explored opportunities to deepen technical and institutional cooperation between Egypt and IATA, in support of mutual objectives such as regional integration and industry advancement.

A focal point of the dialogue was climate change and the aviation sector’s responsibility in reducing carbon emissions. Both sides emphasized the need for alignment with international environmental goals and reaffirmed the importance of joint initiatives in training, capacity building, and the exchange of technical expertise.

The visit underscores IATA’s recognition of Egypt as a key player in the global aviation landscape and a proactive partner in shaping the industry’s future, particularly through its commitment to modernization, sustainability, and international collaboration.
