In phone talks with Arab, world leaders, President Sisi calls for ending humanitarian suffering of Palestinians

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi continued last week to lobby for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, without displacing its people or depopulating it.

On Friday, the president discussed this issue with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the phone.

The conversation of the two leaders confirmed strong relations between their two countries their keenness on strengthening these relations even more, especially in the light of the two countries’ weight in their respective regions.

The two leaders’ talks covered the situation in the Palestinian territories, including Egyptian efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip in co-operation with Qatar and the United States.

They also focused on the delivery of humanitarian aid to the strip to face the humanitarian tragedy suffered by its people.

For his part, Prime Minister Ibrahim praised Egyptian efforts to support the Palestinians and restore calm in the region.

Egypt and Malaysia refused, meanwhile, the displacement of the Palestinians from their lands and the liquidation of the Palestinian issue.

They called for intensify international efforts to establish a Palestinian state on the 4 July 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This, President Sisi and Prime Minister Ibrahim said, would be the only guarantee for lasting peace in the region and the achievement of stability and prosperity for its peoples.

On Wednesday, President Sisi talked on the phone as well with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The two leaders emphasised the strength of their two countries’ relations, stressing their commitment to enhancing joint coordination on regional issues to serve the interests of both the Egyptian and Jordanian peoples, and support the broader interests of all Arab nations.

Talks between the Egyptian and Jordanian leaders focused on developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The two leaders reaffirmed the unified positions of their countries and the need for fully implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

They also called for maintaining the release of hostages and detainees, and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the severe humanitarian suffering in Gaza.

President Sisi and King Abdullah also reiterated the imperative to immediately start the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacing the Palestinian people from their land.

They stressed the necessity to stop the practices carried out by Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinians in the West Bank.

The two leaders also expressed their commitment to boosting co-operation with US President Donald Trump in the pursuit of lasting peace in the Middle East.

They acknowledged President Trump’s leadership in working towards the long-awaited goal of establishing a Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.

They also affirmed the importance of ensuring peaceful coexistence among all peoples in the region.

President Sisi and King Abdullah also reviewed ways to strengthen coordination and consultations among Arab states, as well as preparations for the emergency Arab summit scheduled to take place in Egypt on February 27, aimed to fulfil the aspirations of the peoples of the region for peace, stability, and prosperity.
