Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Thursday with Bangladesh’s interim leader Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Co-operation Summit held in the New Administrative Capital.

Sisi expressed Egypt’s deep appreciation for the historic ties with Bangladesh, emphasizing the importance of further enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, particularly in economic, investment, scientific and cultural sectors.

The president also highlighted the pivotal role of Al Azhar in strengthening these ties.For his part, Yunus affirmed the significance of strengthening bilateral relations, emphasising Azhar’s special status and established role in countering extremist and terrorist ideologies.The meeting also reviewed regional developments, particularly in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, alongside Egypt’s efforts to restore peace and stability and safeguard the well-being of nations.

Yunus expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s fundamental role in achieving stability in the Middle East and defending the causes of the Islamic world and developing countries.He reiterated Bangladesh’s desire to elevate its co-operation with Egypt to reflect the deep historical ties between the two nations.
