Key goals Cairo seeks to achieve regarding war on Gaza:

  • Reaching a ceasefire;
  • Securing return of captives;
  • Ensuring aid delivery to Gaza Strip

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed on Tuesday that peace remains a strategic choice for Egypt, with no hidden agenda.

Speaking at the inspection of the Sixth Armoured Division of the Second Field Army in Ismailia, President Sisi highlighted Egypt’s longstanding commitment to peace and stability, dating back to 1973, when the country achieved victory in the October War despite facing significant challenges.

The President said that the political leadership in 1973 displayed a visionary approach, pursuing peace as a strategic path after the war, a decision that has stood the test of time.

He added that despite the difference in military capabilities, the determination of the Egyptian Armed Forces and the people led to the triumph, restoring Egypt’s lands and establishing peace.

The President also said that Egypt’s core stance has been one of peace, stability, and development, with war as the exception.

He highlighted that Egypt maintains a just and consistent position on the Palestinian issue, supporting the right of Palestinians to an independent state alongside Israel. He stressed that the establishment of a Palestinian state would open new prospects for regional peace and cooperation, ending decades of conflict and hatred.

Sisi praised the Armed Forces for their restraint and readiness, particularly during the challenges posed in 2011, when both the military and police faced threats aimed at destabilising the nation. The Armed Forces played a crucial role in preserving the nation’s security during that critical period.

President Sisi highlighted three consistent key goals that Cairo has been striving to achieve regarding the 7 October war on Gaza. These are reaching a ceasefire, securing the return of captives, and ensuring aid delivery to the Gaza Strip, as over two million people have been strongly suffering for over a year.

He also pointed out that after this war ends, the best course of action would be to establish a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital to end this cycle of conflict and hatred.

Since the onset of the Israeli war on the strip, the death toll in Gaza has reached at least 41,909, according to the Palestinian health ministry on Monday.

Additionally, President El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s strong support for the just Palestinian cause, asserting that the Palestinian people have the right to exist in an independent state alongside Israel, which could pave the way for real peace and cooperation opportunities across the entire region.

He added that over the past 51 years, Egypt has achieved milestones that no war could have accomplished, maintaining peace and fostering development.

President Sisi reiterated that Egypt’s foreign policy is characterised by balance and moderation, refraining from igniting conflicts, and instead focusing on peace-building.

“Egypt has no hidden agenda towards any party; we want to live peacefully along our borders. Our experience [6 October 1973 War] has shown that cooperation is more beneficial than conflict and fighting,” President Sisi stated.

He concluded his remarks by expressing gratitude to the Egyptian Armed Forces for their steadfast readiness and loyalty solely to their homeland.

The Armed Forces represent a rational force with significant balance, operating humbly domestically and internationally, he emphasised.

“As long as the Egyptian Armed Forces remain trained, prepared, and alert, there is no cause for concern,” he affirmed.
