Egyptian’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel el-Wazir, met today Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, Oka Hiroshi, to follow up on underway joint projects and to discuss future co-operation between the two countries in the fields of transport and industry.

The meeting was attended by Suzuki Yusuku, Economic Advisor at the Japanese Embassy, and Kato Kane, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Egypt.

El-Wazir hailed strong ties between Cairo and Tokyo, praising the fruitful co-operation between the two sides in implementing a number of joint projects in the transport sector. The minister stressed the need to boost collaboration in various fields.

For his part, Hiroshi expressed Japan’s keenness to bolster co-operation with Egypt’s Ministry of Transport and Industry, citing great development in the North African country.

The Japanese diplomat also praised projects on the Nile corridors he had seen during his visit to Upper Egypt.

Wazir said the Nile corridors come within the framework of directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in June 2014 to reduce the inter-distances between the Nile corridors to 25 kilometres with the chief aim of serving development projects and new urban communities.

He added the Nile corridors were designed to connect the road network east and west of the Nile, pointing out that these projects have contributed to facilitating the movement of citizens and goods.
