CAIRO – Maysaa Hadmi, the supervisor of the department of health and humanitarian aid at the Arab League (AL) said the pan-Arab body is keen to enhance the role of civil society and strengthen the participation of its organisations in joint Arab action.
Hadmi made the remarks in a speech that she delivered on Monday during the launch of an initiative titled “Arab Youth, Guardians of History and Identity” at the headquarters of the Arab League’s General Secretariat.
She highlighted the AL’s willingness to support all initiatives aimed at promoting the role of civil society and Arab youth in supporting Jerusalem, and increasing global awareness about the Palestinian issue.
Hadmi stated the initiative’s first edition is held under the rubric “Al Quds is an Arab Land”, noting this event comes at a time when the Middle East is experiencing rising tensions as a result of the brutal Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and Israel’s disregard of all regional and international calls for reaching an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave and stopping the scorched earth policy through targeting defenseless civilians.
The AL official commended the part of Arab civil society organisations and Arab youth in alleviating the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, as they participate in relief operations, provide health and social services and distribute humanitarian aid to the enclave’s residents.
