CAIRO – Egypt’s Foreign, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Minister Badr Abdel Aati left on Friday for Accra, the capital of Ghana, as part of Egypt’s delegation to the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union, Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms.

The meeting will be convened under the AU theme of the year 2024 on Education, “Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century”. The meeting will be preceded by the 45th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, which will take place on July 18-19.

In statements on Friday, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the coordination meeting is scheduled to address the situation of regional integration, and follow up on the policies of the AU and the regional economic communities (RECs) to enhance the industrial capacity for regional integration.

On the sidelines of his visit to Ghana, Abdel Ati is set to hold a number of bilateral meetings with Chairman of the AU Commission, the commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) of the African Union, the Executive Secretary of African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and the Executive Director of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), in addition to meetings with several African foreign ministers, the spokesman said.

The meetings aim at having coordination on the process of joint African action, stand on the progress made in continental and regional integration, and follow up on the file of bilateral ties between Egypt and African countries, the spokesman added.

The minister will also participate in events organized by the AU Commission on the sidelines of the meeting, the spokesman further noted.

Abdel Aati will also meet with a number of African businessmen and investors for talks on investment opportunities available in Egypt, the spokesman concluded.
