Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi thanked on Monday Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker for his relentless efforts over the past few years to achieve a quantum leap in this vital sector to level up to advanced countries despite the tough conditions the country has passed through.

“I take this opportunity to talk about Dr. Shaker and thank him for the effort he exerted over the past period to address one of the country’s major problems which is electricity,” Sisi said during the inauguration of a number of national projects in the electricity domain in Upper Egyptian governorates, atop of which was Benban Photovoltaic Power plant.

“Today we will not talk about what has been accomplished and how much it costs, but we will talk about the effort of a ministry, headed by a great scientist in this specialization, a man who was able, through tireless effort and great knowledge, to achieve a major leap in the electricity domain,” the President said.

He thanked Shaker for accepting to hold the electricity portfolio and leave his private company, saying Shaker never pushed his private company in any project carried out by the State but on the contrary it offered services to the State projects for free.

Egypt has gone through difficult circumstances over the past years in what is related to energy, but “now we are moving on the right track whether in terms of production, distribution or control, and we can level up to all developed countries in this field,” Sisi said.

He stressed that the government is going ahead with developing this important sector, saying “one of the important goals we seek to achieve is to transfer high-quality electricity.”
