SENIOR officials from the Danish Embassy and the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has recently  met to discuss green issues and climate change.
The Embassy of Denmark in Cairo and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy hosted the second meeting of the steering committee on energy. The first meeting was held in March this year.

Discussions covered the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Denmark and Egypt in 2020 on electricity and progress in the green transition and the implications of climate change for the energy sector. Officials also discussed activities proposed for next year.

Ambassador of Denmark in Cairo Svend Olling, and Ossama Ali Asran, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy co-chaired the meeting, which was attended by members of the steering committee from the Royal Danish Embassy, the Danish Energy Agency and the partners from the Egyptian energy sector.

Despite the pandemic, Egyptian-Danish co-operation set up an executive committee with representatives from both countries and with the mandate of assuring effective and dynamic progress in all activities.

Thanks to close co-operation and several workshops, both parties drafted two sets of terms of reference: one on options to improve wind resource assessments in Egypt, and another on energy modelling and the Egyptian renewable energy outlook.
