CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry Monday raised alarm over the serious repercussions of extending the scale of the conflict in the region as well as threats it poses to the stability and safety of the region and the whole world.

This came as Shoukry received a delegation of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The foreign minister reviewed the remarkable development of Egyptian-American relations as well as the ongoing consultation and coordination between the two sides regarding regional and international issues, most notably means of dealing with the current crisis in Gaza and its repercussions, the spokesman said.

Shoukry expounded Egyptian efforts meant to impose a truce and eventually reach a ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip, the spokesman noted.

He underscored the necessity of intensifying efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive ceasefire alongside putting into effect the UN Security Council resolution no. 2720 on establishing a UN mechanism for accelerating humanitarian consignments to Gaza.

Shoukry highlighted Egypt’s stance regarding the risks of any military operation in Rafah city and its catastrophic humanitarian impact. He further highlighted Egypt’s rejection of any attempts to forcefully displace Palestinians from their homeland, according to the spokesman.

The foreign minister hailed the key role of the American Chamber of Commerce in boosting relations between Egypt and the US, specially in economic and trade cooperation, the spokesman added.
