CAIRO – The House of Representatives, on Sunday convened a session under Speaker Hanafi El Gebali, during which it approved, by the required majority vote, three draft laws amending some provisions of the Traffic Law issued by Law No. 66 of 1973.
The Council’s approval came after reviewing the report of the Joint Committee of the Committee on Defense and National Security, the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committees, and the Plan and Budget Committee, and the Local Administration on the proposed law.
The report of the Joint Committee pointed out that the amendments come within the framework of the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to implement an integrated electronic traffic system through digital transformation in all service sectors.
The amendments also aim to enhance traffic safety, preserve the lives and property of citizens, maintain discipline on the roads, and enable the detection of stolen vehicles and identification of vehicles with security demands or expired licenses. This is achieved through the production of secure and non-forgeable traffic plates that bear security features difficult to counterfeit and are compatible with the smart transportation system.
