Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour during the last session of the Private Universities Council on Sunday emphasised the role Egyptian universities play in achieving sustainable development and serving their communities.

He highlighted several key areas where universities are making a positive impact.

He said that universities are actively involved in implementing the presidential initiative Decent Life by developing informal areas and providing essential services such as medical, agricultural, veterinary, and educational.

This initiative aims to improve the lives of citizens in underdeveloped regions.

“Universities, in collaboration with the General Authority for Adult Education, have successfully contributed to reducing illiteracy by over 948,000 individuals”, he added

This aligns with the Egyptian state’s goal of achieving an “Egypt without illiteracy” by 2030.

The minister pointed out that the Ministry and universities are working together to build students’ cultural and intellectual awareness and equip them with skills to counter harmful ideologies.

This includes educational content development, curriculum integration, and the “Together” competition for promoting positive values.

The Ministry is committed to fostering innovation and bridging the gap between research and industry, Ashour affirmed.

The “Innovation Policy Committee” and initiatives like localising the electric car industry showcase this commitment.

He also confirmed that university hospitals play a crucial role in delivering distinguished medical care across the country. They participate in presidential initiatives like eliminating waiting lists and screening for Hepatitis C and other diseases.

Ashour commended the efforts of universities and encouraged them to continue their impactful contributions through community participation and collaboration with government initiatives.
