President of the  Egyptian Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) Boulos Fahmy asserted the political leadership is keen on promoting the rule of law and constitution in order to achieve stability of the state in accordance with constitutional legitimacy principles.

Fahmy’s remarks were made at a global press conference, themed “justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court in light of the 2014 newly-introduced provisions of the constitution,” in coincidence with the 10th anniversary of the 2014 constitution on Saturday.

He added the court seeks to make a balance among texts of the constitution to attain harmony in its provisions, in addition to its greater interest in boosting rights and freedoms of citizens that have to do with their public duties.

SCC is activating principles that were introduced by the existing constitutional document that is always progressing to attain the interests of both the state and citizens, he said.

Ten years from the date on which this constitution comes into effect in 2014, Egypt is celebrating the occasion as the social decade which is expressing the determination of people, according to him.

The conference is probing 20 principles, approved by SCC in rulings and verdicts it issued for examined cases as per the 2014 new provision of the constitution, added the head of the court.

Under these principles, it is a must to achieve separation and balance among the state’s authorities, representation of women in justice, the right of citizens to have public jobs depending on efficiency criterion, he pointed out.

Fahmy added among the principles are setting the stage for more investments and encouraging the private sector, along with protecting dignity of citizens.

He also mentioned such principles include as well protection of intellectual property and the right to protest.
