JORDAN- Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken agreed on enabling the displaced residents of northern Gaza to return to their homes and areas. They also rejected the displacement of Palestinians within Gaza and beyond and emphasised the need to deliver aid adequately to Gaza.

This came during the extensive talks held Sunday in the Jordanian capital Amman between Safadi and Blinken concerning the catastrophic conditions in Gaza, along with bilateral and regional issues.

The ministers also agreed to continue communication to discuss efforts for a ceasefire, the entry of aid, the protection of civilians, and genuine efforts to end the conflict and achieve a just peace based on a two-state solution.

Safadi, during the meeting with the US Secretary of State, emphasised the necessity of an immediate and permanent ceasefire to end the aggression and its resulting killing, destruction, and humanitarian disaster. He stressed the urgent, sufficient, and sustainable delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to all parts of Gaza facing a humanitarian catastrophe due to the continued Israeli aggression and the prevention of adequate aid entry.

Safadi warned of the consequences of the ongoing aggression and Israel’s violations of international law and humanitarian law, as well as the dangerous Israeli escalation in the West Bank. He emphasised the need for Israel to halt all its illegal and provocative steps leading to an escalation in the West Bank.

Safadi reiterated the futility of any future proposal that separates Gaza from the West Bank outside the context of a comprehensive plan that meets the rights of the Palestinian people to freedom and an independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with its capital in occupied Jerusalem, based on a two-state solution.
