Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-El-Mashat is one of nine Egyptian women to receive a Champions of Change award
The minister was chosen by Canada, Mexico and Sweden for the award on the occasion of Egyptian Women’s Day.
Highlighting the importance of gender equality, el-Mashaat said gender equality would raise Egypt’s GDP by 34 percent.
“So, with our international partners, we are working hard to achieve these goals,” the minister said during the award ceremony Thursday at the residence of Mexican Ambassador in Cairo José Octavio Tripp.
The Champions of Change awards are given in recognition of contributions by pioneers of Egyptian gender equality and their efforts in building a stronger Egypt.
Gender equality is a priority for Canada, Mexico and Sweden, which all carry out feminist foreign policies.
Sweden is also working in Egypt and the Arab region to promote women’s economic empowerment through several initiatives.
