King Abdullah II of Jordan affirmed his country’s unwavering stance, its steadfast commitment to its Arab identity, and its defense of Arab causes.
He stressed that Israeli expansionist ambitions represent the greatest threat to the future and security of the region, and that there is no way to achieve security and stability without fulfilling the Palestinian people’s right to their land.
In the Speech from the Throne delivered Monday, marking the inauguration of the third ordinary session of the 20th Parliament (comprising both the House of Representatives and the Senate), King Abdullah II said: “Jordan remains steadfast in its position, committed to its Arab identity and to defending the causes of its nation, just as my father, King Hussein, was before me, and as my son will be after me.”
He emphasised that a unified Arab voice will remain a goal that the Kingdom strives to achieve.
He added that international calls to halt Israeli violations have failed to prevent the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and continuous attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
He noted that peoples will never forget what is happening, and that whoever thinks tyranny confers legitimacy or that time erases truth is delusional.
The Jordanian Monarch stressed that achieving security and stability in the region remains contingent upon fulfilling the rights of the Palestinian people to their land.
He affirmed that Jordan will continue to defend the causes of the nation, and that a strong Jordanian state is best equipped to protect its interests and fulfill its responsibilities toward its brothers.
On domestic affairs, King Abdullah II affirmed that Jordan will remain resilient against terrorism, following the events witnessed in Karak Governorate.
He stressed that security agencies and the armed forces will confront anyone attempting to compromise the Kingdom’s security and unity, stating that terrorists have no place among Jordanians, while recalling the martyrs of Karak and their sacrifices.
On the economic and public service fronts, the King asserted that the citizen’s interest must be at the core of government decisions, and that true development must reflect on living standards, job opportunities, education, healthcare, and the future of generations.
He called upon the government to accelerate the implementation of major projects within the framework of the economic modernisation track and to reinforce Jordan’s pivotal role in the region.
He also underscored the priority of water security, stating: “We will not allow the thirst of Jordanians to be held hostage to any circumstance,” and affirming that water is a vital issue requiring sustained action and attention.
Regarding the fight against corruption and the strengthening of accountability, the Jordanian Monarch affirmed that “there is no immunity for anyone who misuses their position, whoever they may be.”
The King called upon Parliament to fulfill its legislative and oversight role, to be a voice for the nation and a guardian of the public interest, and to monitor government performance.
He emphasised that the nation is the source of all authorities, and that divergence of opinion represents a strength as long as Jordan’s interest remains the ultimate goal.
