Egypt’s Emigration Minister Soha Gendi said the new republic has granted Egyptians abroad the right to select the country’s leadership.
She expressed confidence that Egyptian expats are keen on taking part in the upcoming presidential election.
She stressed her ministry’s interest in communicating with Egyptian expats in coordination with the National Elections Authority and the Foreign Ministry to post them on the election mechanisms and locations of 138 ballot stations in Egyptian embassies and consulates across the world.
She made the remarks during a meeting with Egyptian expats in Saudi Arabia under a campaign “cast your ballot” to incentivize 3 million Egyptians to take part in the presidential election in addition to promoting for investment in Egypt.
She lauded the Egyptian expats keenness on attending online activities.
The National Election Authority has announced that the election for expats will be on December 1 through 3 and the run-off, if there is any, will be on January 5 through 7.
Gendi said she selected Saudi Arabia to be the first stop of her foreign tour as it has the largest number of Egyptian expats; 2.9 million out of a total of 14 million Egyptians abroad.
