Egypt’s annual Turathna exhibition reflects the political leadership’s strong commitment to traditional crafts and heritage industries, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Saturday.
Madbouly made the remarks while inaugurating the eighth edition of Turathna 2026 on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in New Cairo. The exhibition, organised by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency under the slogan “The Origin of the Story,” runs through Oct. 24.
He said the government was coordinating efforts across state institutions to preserve traditional crafts and develop the sector, citing a handicrafts strategy aimed at making Egypt a leading centre for producing and exporting handmade goods.
Madbouly noted that millions of artisans help preserve Egypt’s cultural identity, while the sector provides hundreds of thousands of jobs nationwide. He added that the government would continue offering technical, development and marketing support to improve product quality and expand access to domestic and international markets.
Around 1,000 exhibitors from across Egypt are taking part in the event, alongside Arab and international participants.
The exhibition aims to expand marketing opportunities for artisans and small-business owners, promote their products and reach new consumer groups.
The event features a wide range of handmade goods reflecting Egypt’s diverse artistic heritage, including handwoven carpets, pottery, ceramics, textiles, copper and silver jewelry, olive-wood products, mosaics, leatherwork, crochet, and arabesque, among other handmade products created by artisans from different governorates.
