World-renowned archaeologist Zahi Hawass starts September 10 a four-day promotional tour with a visit to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Then he will fly to the Danish capital Copenhagen for a two-day visit, to promote tourism in Egypt.
“These tours are a unique opportunity to promote tourism, especially the cultural tourism product,” Hawass said.
“Given that the ancient Egyptian civilisation and its ancient monuments are in the heart of all peoples of the world,” he added.
During these tours, Hawass will hold a number of lectures during which he will review the most important archaeological discoveries in Egypt, including the discovery of the Lost Golden City in Luxor, which was selected as the most important archaeological discovery in the world for 2021.
The tours are organised by the Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA) in co-ordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The Baltic countries were chosen to be the target markets during this tour in implementation of the ministry’s plan to target new tourist markets, which contributes to attracting more incoming tourist traffic to Egypt and reaching 30 million tourists by the end of 2028,” said Amr el-Qadi, the CEO of the ETA.
On the sidelines of these tours, a number of cultural and media events will be implemented, including a press conference by Hawass, a public lecture, and a reception for dignitaries and professionals in the tourism sector, in co-operation with tour operators in these markets.
A press conference by Hawass and a public lecture will also be held at the University of Copenhagen in cooperation with the Danish Egyptological Society and the national carrier EgyptAir in Copenhagen.
The authority will also arrange further visits for Hawass to Japan and Portugal.
