The World Youth Forum (WYF) lauded on Saturday a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly on the contributions of the forum in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh as regards youth empowering.

The UN ratified in consensus a resolution on UN simulation models and their role in empowering youth and enhancing their communication with the UN and getting youths more familiar with multi-party work.

The Youth World Forum stated that the resolution was presented by a group of countries, including Egypt, Portugal, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Laos.

The resolution welcomed the contributions of youth forums and conferences, particularly the Youth World Forum in Sharm El-Sheikh in its four editions, in empowering youth and providing them with opportunities to develop their skills.

Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Osama Abdel Khalek, stated that the adoption of this resolution and having more than 115 countries on its sponsors list reflect the international appreciation of the forum as an important platform for exchanging ideas and visions among international youth, especially in the fields of peace, creativity, and development.

He also confirmed the Egyptian political leadership’s keenness to empower youth and increase their participation in development efforts.

It is worth noting that the forum has been feted internationally, especially as the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted the World Youth Forum as an Egyptian global contribution to opening up dialogue between youth around the world in February 2021.

Moreover, the United Nations adopted the forum in its previous editions as an international platform for discussing youth issues. The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) also highlighted the Egyptian experience in empowering youth politically and economically during discussions of the national human rights report in November 2022.
