Turkish Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen held a reception at his residence on Wednesday evening to celebrate the 101st anniversary of Victory Day.

The occasion, also known as Turkish Armed Forces Day, falls on August 30 every year since 1922. It commemorates the decisive victory in the Battle of Dumlupinar, the last battle in the Greco-Turkish War, under the command of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The battle ended the Greek military presence in Anatolia.

“On this occasion, I would like to state that the Turkish Armed Forces has become one of the prominent assurances of peace, stability and security in our region and in the world. With this power, the Turkish Armed Forces aims to strengthen cooperation with all friendly and brotherly countries, as well as supporting regional and global peace, stability and security,” Ambassador Mutlu Şen said.

“In this context, I would like to underscore that the Turkish Armed Forces attribute a special importance to cooperation with the Egyptian Armed Forces, which has a great and respected position with its tradition, weapon systems, courage and discipline. In addition to cooperation in the field of education and military exercise, defence industry is also another promising area of cooperation,” he added.

High-level delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Defence, diplomats and media personnel attended the ceremony.

During his speech, the ambassador commemorated the founder of the republic, Atatürk as the “Commander-in-Chief of our national struggle as well as esteemed members of our Grand National Assembly and the heroic soldiers of our army with mercy and gratitude”.

He pointed out that his country is taking firm steps towards building its bright and prosperous future based on the spirit, belief and will that inspired that Victory.

Multu Şen said that the most important indication of his nation’s success can be seen through all the achievements made in every area, from defence industry to economy, from foreign policy to energy and to our fight against terrorist organisations that threaten the unity and integrity of our country.

“2023 will be a new milestone that will be engraved in memories with the construction of a great and powerful Türkiye,” he said.
