Cairo Governor Major General Khaled Abdel-Aal and Benjamina Karić, Mayor of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, have signed a friendship and co-operation agreement between the two capitals.

Abdel-Aal said the agreement aims to strengthen bonds of friendship and understanding between Cairo Governorate and the city of Sarajevo in the fields of culture, science, arts, education, health, tourism, sports, environment, and trade, symbolising the strength of relations between the two countries.

Following the signing, Cairo governor held a meeting with the mayor of Sarajevo and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, Governor Abdel-Aal reviewed major achievements in Egypt in the last ten years with regard to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Egypt’s Vision 2030 under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Cairo is considered an open museum, bringing together a mixture of cultures and Islamic, Coptic, Pharaonic, Greek, Roman and Jewish civilisations, Abdel-Aal said.

For her part, Benjamina Karić, Mayor of Sarajevo, expressed her thanks to Egypt for the support it provided to her country in difficult circumstances. She said the agreement is a step on the road to strengthening co-operation between the two capitals.

Karić extended an official invitation to Governor Khaled Abdel-Al to visit Sarajevo.
