Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati has reviewed the water projects Cairo has carried out in the South Sudan.

Abdel Aati held talks on Sunday with the visiting South Sudanese counterpart, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Manawa Peter, a ministry statement said in Cairo.

During the meeting, Abdel Aati stressed the close ties between the two nations, noting that bilateral co-operation has extended over long years.

Egypt has carried out several water and irrigation projects in South Sudan for the good of development efforts and people there.

The talks dwelt on a number of issues of common interest as well as means of enhancing joint co-operation in the field of water resources.
Abdel Aati said Egypt established six groundwater wells in Juba along with contributing to the feasibility studies of Waw dam project that will help in provision of water required for electricity generation and agricultural activities in the country.
Regarding the services offered to South Sudanese people and improving the quality of life, the Egyptian minister explained that a number of river quays have been established in the cities and villages of South Sudan to link the country with its neighbours.

He said that a project is currently under construction to clear Bahr El-Ghazal and set up fish farms, to provide job opportunities for the villagers.
The South Sudanese minister, for his part, appreciated the Egyptian side for inviting him to visit Cairo.

Peter said that his country was looking forward to boosting co-operation with Egypt in all fields.
