CAIRO- Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir and Czech Ambassador in Cairo Ivan Yukl attended on Tuesday the signing of a contract to overhaul 280 Henschel and Adtrans locomotives.
The contract was signed by deputy chairman of the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) Khalid Farouq and Chief Executive Officer of Škoda Group Didier Pfleger.
The agreement stipulates that all works are to be carried out in El-Tebbin workshop in Helwan by Egyptian labor, and under the supervision of experts from the Czech Škoda Company.
There is a commitment to rehabilitate and overhaul the first two locomotives in the Czech Republic, then to rehabilitate and overhaul the locomotives from the 3rd to the 140th at El-Tebbin workshop, with a 40% of local component, and to rehabilitate the locomotives from the 141st to the 280th at El-Tebbin workshop, with nearly 50% of local component.
Concerning the maintenance works of locomotives, it is agreed that their percentage of the local component should start by 40% until it reaches 60%.
