Egyptian support for higher education in Africa

Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education Ayman Ashour announced intentions to strengthen co-operation with African countries in tertiary education.
Higher education and scientific research are the drivers of social and economic development, the minister said.
According to a ministry a report out yesterday on Egypt’s support for higher education in Africa in financial year (FY) 2022-2023, Egypt allocated 2,317 scholarships to African countries.
The ministry organises conferences for the General Union of African Universities to support scientific research and partnerships in medical and pharmaceutical research, the report said.
The ministry seeks to link Egyptian universities with their African counterparts through partnerships and twinning programmes between Egyptian and African universities, as is the case between Helwan University and Limpopo University in South Africa, the authors of the report said.
Egyptian research centres communicate with African researchers to conduct joint research projects in agriculture, food science, mineral resources, new and renewable energy, health and space technology, the report added.
The ministry is always keen to provide training for young people from African countries in scientific research.
The establishment of an African Space Agency, which is expected to have a great impact on the renaissance of space science and technology in the continent, is not too far away, the report said.
