The Egyptian government aims to increase its expenditure on the health sector by 15 per cent in the new budget, said Finance Minister Mohamed Maait.

The government expenditure on the health sector increased by 10 per cent over the past nine months, he added.

Maait, meanwhile, said that more than EGP 300 billion is needed for health expenditure on about 90 per cent of Egyptians.

The role of the private sector is crucial in reforming the health system in Egypt and the comprehensive health insurance, he further said.

Maait also praised the 100 Million Health Initiative, adding that such initiative won praise from around the world.

Maait’s remarks were made Sunday during a conference on launching the impact of health expenditures on health outcomes for Fiscal Year 2019/2020.

The conference was attended by Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat, along with a host of high-level officials.
