Camel racing will soon be on the calendar of events at a Red Sea resort as the town’s first camel race track nears completion.
The six kilometres of dirt roads to and from the race track were resurfaced with tarmac left over from the building of the town’s ring road.
The track has its own electricity supply, making floodlit night races a star attraction.
The track is surrounded by 300 palm trees.
A bedouin village selling local products and a veterinary unit are being built near the track.
The camel race track is the brainchild of South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda.
As soon as Fouda gained approval for his idea from Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy, he set to work with the help of Sharm el-Sheikh mayor Mahmoud el-Sollaya.
