WASHINGTON – US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamikawa Yoko and reaffirmed the vital importance of the ironclad US-Japan Alliance in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity, according to a statement by US Department of State.

Secretary Blinken expressed his condolences for those who lost their lives in the January 1 earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture, as well as in the January 2 collision of a Japan Coast Guard aircraft and a passenger aircraft at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, it said.

Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Kamikawa discussed the situation in the Middle East, the two countries’ enduring support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as well as in the South China Sea.

They also discussed the possibility of collaboration on Women, Peace, and Security initiatives, added the note.
