UN Chief Guterres wishes Muslims a blessed Ramadan, expresses solidarity with Gaza

NEW YORK – The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has released a video message on the occasion of the beginning of Ramadan.

In his message, Guterres emphasised the significance of Ramadan, which embodies the values of peace, resilience, and generosity, Roya News reported Monday.

He highlighted Ramadan as a period of reflection and prayer, offering an opportunity for individuals to come together, support one another, and uplift their communities.

However, amidst the spiritual significance and communal celebrations, Guterres acknowledged that many will observe Ramadan while facing immense challenges. Conflict, displacement, and fear continue to affect numerous regions worldwide, casting a shadow over the joyous occasion.

In solidarity with those enduring hardship, Guterres extended his thoughts and heartfelt prayers to individuals and communities across various regions, from Afghanistan to the Sahel, from the Horn of Africa to Syria, and beyond.

“I wish to express a special message of solidarity and support to all those suffering from the horrors in Gaza,” he stated.

“In these trying times, the spirit of Ramadan is a beacon of hope, a reminder of our shared humanity,” he added.

Guterres hoped for a world guided by peace, compassion, and justice.

“May this Holy Month bring peace and guide us towards a more just and compassionate world.”

“Ramadan Kareem,” he concluded.
