Donald Trump has issued a new threat to Iran, declaring there will be “No more Mr Nice Guy” and sharing an AI-generated of himself holding a gun against a backdrop of buildings being bombed.
The US president said Iran does not “know how to sign a non-nuclear deal” in an apparent reference to Tehran’s latest phased peace proposal that reportedly postpones talk of its nuclear programme. “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday.
Two regional officials said earlier this week that Iran has offered to end its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz if the US lifts its blockade on the country and ends the war. The reported proposal would postpone discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme, reports Mirror.
However, Trump is understood to be unlikely to accept the offer, which was passed to the Americans by Pakistan and would leave unresolved the disagreements that led the US and Israel to launch its war on February 28.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared to rule out any deal that excludes Iran’s nuclear programme. “We can’t let them get away with it,” he told Fox News on Monday. “We have to ensure that any deal that is made, any agreement that is made, is one that definitively prevents them from sprinting towards a nuclear weapon at any point.”
