A gas pipeline supplying a thermal power plant east of Damascus exploded on Wednesday, knocking three power generation stations out of service, Syrian state media reported.
A source at Syria’s Energy Ministry told Syrian media that the explosion occurred in a gas pipeline feeding the Tishreen Thermal Power Plant in the Haran Al-Awamid area of the eastern Damascus countryside.
Maintenance teams were working to shut off the gas line and control the resulting fire, the source said.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately reported.
