GENEVA – More than eight nations in the World Health Organization European Region have recorded infections of monkey pox in latest days, while Australia, Canada, and the US have as well recorded similar infections, According to WHO.
The European nations which recorded monkey pox, which is a rare viral contagion that can be spread from person to person and is triggered by the monkey pox virus, are Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.
As stated by Hans Kluge, WHO local manager for Europe “These recent cases are atypical for several reasons.”
He went on “In this instance, all but one of the recent cases have no relevant travel history to areas where monkey pox is endemic, in West Africa or Central Africa.”
Kluge as well declared that most of the initial infections recorded were found by sexual health services and are among men who had sex with men.
He went on to say “Because of the geographically dispersed nature of the cases across Europe and beyond, the transmission may have been ongoing for some time.”
