Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Shahin on Wednesday praised Egypt’s efforts to support the Palestinian cause, end hostilities in Gaza, secure a ceasefire and lift the blockade on the territory.
Shahin made the remarks while receiving the credentials of Egypt’s newly appointed representative to the Palestinian Authority, Ambassador Bassem Abdelhadi, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.
She commended Egypt’s continued support for the Palestinian people and its diplomatic efforts under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, saying Cairo’s positions reflected the historic ties between the two peoples.
Shahin also called for stronger bilateral co-operation, particularly in the economic and trade sectors, and urged the completion of agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two sides, as well as the holding of regular political consultations.
Abdelhadi said the Palestinian cause remained deeply rooted in the Egyptian public conscience and pledged to work to support the Palestinians and strengthen bilateral relations.
He said Egypt was keen to reinvigorate co-operation in various fields and complete previously agreed protocols and agreements aimed at supporting Palestinian institutions and strengthening their resilience.
