Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and his Omani counterpart Badr Albusaidi discussed developments in Yemen and the wider region, as well as the security of international shipping in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, on Wednesday.
The Omani minister arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for a two-day visit.
Speaking at the eighth session of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission, the Pakistani foreign minister said the two sides had identified areas of mutual interest and held detailed discussions on global issues during a closed-door meeting, including tensions between the US and Iran, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and developments in Gaza.
The two ministers also discussed the Jammu and Kashmir issue and other pressing regional matters, Dar said, praising Albusaidi’s leadership and efforts to promote regional peace in the Middle East.
“I greatly appreciate your efforts and recognise the hard work you have put in,” Dar said. “We are members of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation and, of course, the United Nations and other multilateral bodies,” he added.
Dar said Pakistan and Oman maintained close and friendly co-operation, noting that while the two countries had marked 55 years of diplomatic relations, their ties dated back centuries.
The talks come as fighting has continued on a number of fronts in Yemen for weeks, following a renewed outbreak of hostilities amid the repercussions of the conflict between the United States and Iran.
