Pakistan secured a significant majority vote to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday, a pivotal institution within the global community. As part of its pledge, Pakistan aims to actively contribute to addressing the serious global challenges.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, expressed his pride as Pakistan secured an impressive 182 votes, earning a seat on the UNSC for the term 2025-2026.

The Pakistani prime minister said on his official X account, previously known as Twitter, “Our election to the Council with overwhelming support from UN member states at this critical time reflects the international community’s confidence in Pakistan’s diplomatic standing and our commitment to global peace and security.”

“We eagerly anticipate collaborating with the international community to tackle urgent global challenges. Our dedication to fostering peace, stability, and co-operation among nations will remain unwavering,” he added.
