WASGINGTON – The United States has issued new sanctions targeting yachts linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin, a yacht brokerage, and several government officials in another move intended to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, Radio Free Europe reported on Friday.
The sanctions take further action “to degrade the key networks used by Russia’s elites, including President Vladimir Putin, to attempt to hide and move money and anonymously make use of luxury assets around the globe,” the US Treasury Department said in a news release according to MENA.
Russia’s elites, including Putin, “rely on complex support networks to hide, move, and maintain their wealth and luxury assets,” Brian Nelson, undersecretary of the Treasury for terrorism and financial Intelligence, said in the statement.
