As Switzerland celebrates its National Day, Holcim Egypt marks a new chapter in its journey following the official transition from Lafarge Egypt to Holcim Egypt. As a member of Holcim Group, the company continues to build on a legacy of innovation, sustainability, and engineering excellence while reinforcing its long-term commitment to Egypt’s development. Backed by an asset portfolio exceeding LE8 billion in the Egyptian market since commencing operations, Holcim Egypt enters this new phase focused on delivering sustainable building solutions and strengthening Egypt’s position as a strategic market within Holcim Group’s global strategy.

The transition reflects the company’s natural evolution in the Egyptian market since 1997, combining nearly three decades of local experience with Holcim Group’s global expertise in sustainability, circular economy, research and development, and digital transformation. It also marks the evolution of the company’s business model, from supplying cement and concrete to delivering an integrated portfolio of sustainable building solutions supported by technical expertise, engineering consultancy, customised project support, low-carbon products, and digital solutions. This positions Holcim Egypt as a strategic partner to Egypt’s construction industry, helping customers deliver more efficient and sustainable projects while supporting the country’s urban development ambitions and Egypt Vision 2030.

Commenting on the announcement, Khaled El Dokani, CEO of Holcim Egypt, said: “The transition to operate as Holcim Egypt marks the beginning of a new strategic chapter in our journey. It reflects our strong alignment with the Group’s global identity while building on the strong legacy we have established in Egypt and the trust we have earned with our customers and partners over the years.”

He added: “Egypt is one of Holcim Group’s strategic market and we will continue expanding our portfolio of low-carbon building solutions, enhancing our technical & engineering services, and leveraging the Group’s global expertise & innovations to deliver greater value to our customers. This will enable the delivery of more efficient and sustainable projects while supporting urban development and infrastructure growth in line with the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030.”

The transition also reflects the longstanding partnership between Switzerland and Egypt, built on decades of economic co-operation, investment, innovation, and knowledge exchange. Through Holcim Egypt, the Group continues to bring Swiss expertise and international best practices to one of the region’s fastest-growing construction markets, supporting modern infrastructure while creating long-term value for customers, partners, and local communities.

Holcim Egypt operates one of the region’s most advanced industrial platforms, anchored by one of the largest cement plants in the Middle East and North Africa in Ain Sokhna, with an annual production capacity of 9.5 million tonnes, alongside a network of more than 10 ready-mix concrete plants across Egypt. Through Geocycle Egypt, the company also advances circular economy practices by providing environmentally responsible waste management and co-processing solutions.

Throughout its presence in Egypt, Holcim Egypt has contributed to landmark national projects, including the Grand Egyptian Museum, the New Capital, the New Alamein Towers, the Cairo Metro, and numerous infrastructures, energy, and housing developments, underscoring its long-standing role in supporting the country’s growth.

Sustainability remains at the heart of Holcim Egypt’s strategy. Today, 98% of its cement portfolio consists of low-carbon products, led by the next generation of ECOPlanet cement, which can reduce carbon emissions by up to 50% compared with conventional cement, depending on the product type and application. Complementing this portfolio is ECOPact, Holcim’s low-carbon concrete solution, while the company’s cement plant operates with an alternative fuel substitution rate exceeding 33%, reflecting its commitment to climate action and responsible resource management.

Beyond its business operations, Holcim Egypt continues to invest in education, skills development, women’s empowerment, and community development initiatives, creating lasting social impact across Egypt. As Holcim Egypt embarks on this new chapter, it remains committed to strengthening the partnership between Switzerland and Egypt by combining Swiss innovation with Egyptian ambition to help build a more sustainable future for generations to come.
