CAIRO – The Arab region is now facing serious challenges, which necessitate promoting joint action to support Arab issues, topped by the Palestinian cause, said Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister for the Arab World Affairs Nasser al Qahtani.
“The Palestinian cause is the first cause to Arabs”, Qahtani added in an address to the 157th session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates Monday before handing over the presidency of the council to Lebanon’s permanent delegate to the AL Ali Halabi.
Today’s meeting will prepare for meetings of the council at the level of Arab Foreign Ministers, slated for Wednesday at the league’s headquarters, according to him.
The Kuwaiti official reiterated his country’s firm position concerning the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinians to establish their independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders with al-Quds as its capital as per international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Halabi, for his part, said this current session is being held under very critical conditions in the Arab region, including negative impacts and repercussions of Covid-19 pandemic in the region and the world at large.
He talked about the current situation in Lebanon and escalating violations committed by Israel on daily basis in the country.
He also said Lebanon is now passing through an unprecedented economic and financial crisis.
The permanent delegates discuss the draft agenda which includes different joint Arab action in the political, economic, social, security, financial and administrative fields.
