The visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Egypt dominated the Jordanian press, which highlighted its political and strategic significance and its timing amid rapidly unfolding regional and international developments.

The newspapers said the visit went beyond bilateral ties between Cairo and Beijing, carrying broader Arab and regional implications, MENA reported.

Al-Rai newspaper focused on Xi’s arrival in Cairo for his first visit to Egypt in nearly 10 years, noting the official reception hosted by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and highlighting the visit’s importance in light of developments in the Middle East.

Coverage stressed China’s growing importance to Egypt within Beijing’s Middle East strategy, citing Cairo’s political weight, strategic geographic position, Arab and African reach, and central role in addressing regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause.

Al-Dustour newspaper highlighted Xi’s confirmation that China was ready to deepen its comprehensive strategic partnership with Egypt. It said this reflected the development of relations between the two countries and the expansion of political, economic and investment cooperation, while describing the Egyptian-Chinese partnership as a model for China’s cooperation with Arab and African countries.

Jordanian newspapers also highlighted the economic dimension of the visit, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China. Economic and investment ties have developed notably in the fields of industry, energy, transport and technology.

The coverage said trade between Egypt and China reached about $19.52 billion in 2025, while China has recently taken steps to increase investment in several Egyptian sectors, including automobile and battery manufacturing, robotics, energy and petrochemicals.

The Jordanian press gave particular attention to the timing of Xi’s visit to Egypt alongside Jordanian King Abdullah II’s visit to China and meeting with Xi in Beijing. The two developments, it said, reflected the expanding scope of China’s engagement with the Arab region, alongside Jordan’s efforts to broaden its economic and strategic ties with Beijing.

In this context, Al-Ghad newspaper cited King Abdullah’s confirmation during his visit to China of Jordan’s keenness to expand areas of cooperation with Beijing, reflecting Amman’s growing interest in strengthening international partnerships and diversifying economic and investment cooperation.

The Jordanian coverage said Xi’s visit to Egypt should not be viewed as an isolated bilateral event, but rather as part of a broader Chinese move to strengthen Beijing’s political and economic presence in the Arab region, building on its growing relations with several Arab countries and its position as a major economic and investment partner.

The newspapers also underscored the regional importance of the visit, citing converging Egyptian and Jordanian positions and interests on a number of issues, foremost the Palestinian cause and the situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as Arab coordination on political and security developments in the region.

They said increased Chinese investment in Egypt, including projects in infrastructure, energy, industry and technology, could open broader prospects for regional economic cooperation, benefiting a number of Arab countries, including Jordan.
