TOKYO – Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has called for improved living conditions for people taking shelter after Monday’s powerful earthquake. Kishida has also ordered preparations for building temporary housing, NHK reported.
The government on Friday held its fourth meeting of an emergency disaster taskforce for the quake in the Noto Peninsula on the Sea of Japan coast.
Kishida said rescue operations are achieving results, but stressed the need to continue the efforts. He also said the sanitary conditions in shelters should be improved.
The prime minister requested measures to help people maintain their health and prevent illnesses that may lead to disaster-related deaths.
Kishida instructed officials to speed up road repairs, so that relief supplies and personnel can reach isolated areas. He also told them to start preparations for constructing temporary housing.
Kishida said the government will assist the lives of people affected by the quake, and requested officials to draw up a support package as soon as possible.
